The type of pattern-welded steel is the called “Damascus steel”. Originally used in middle eastern sword making, the method has been lost since about the 16th century. But in 1973 bladesmith William F. Moran unveiled his “Damascus knives” at the Knifemakers’ Guild Show. Ever since then modern pattern-welded steel blades have been called “Damascus knives”... The South Pole is a great size for hunting and backpacking. It's light but strong and the fit and finish is perfect. I personally can't think of many other knives that fill the nitch of size and weigh as well as the South Pole.
I am blown away by the quality of my TRC knife. This was my first TRC purchase and I am very happy I purchased the This Is Freedom model. It is a great size for an edc fixed blade and is also a great slicer due to the full flat grind and the thinner blade stock. I have yet to use m390 steel but I have read great things about its strength and edge retention. I am excited to put this knife to use. The fit and finish is where this knife really shines. Superb grind lines and the bevel is at a great angle for cutting. This knife really is flawless in execution and I will be happy to buy another TRC knife in the future.
Very cool. Highly recommend
I was looking for the best of the best knife to use in the outdoors. For me, that means Elmax or M390 steel. This TRC South Pole hits the sweet spot! The Micarta handle and grip feels good in the hand. The full tang and blade are thick. That’s added insurance it won’t snap under stress. Built to impress in function and in style, it doesn’t disappoint. The South Pole clicks securely into the Kydex sheath too so there’s no chance it will be lost. The belt loop attachment is made of a sturdy weave so it moves with you on the fly. All materials easily weather activities in wet conditions. For me, this tool is a great investment!
Great knife at a great price.
Snaps open nicely. Feel good in the hand.
Put together well, fit and finish is excellent.
I think I'm going to get another one!
Very unique and nice
Very nice and so quality knife for not expensive price but finished knife looking like so unique and impressive... highly recommend for everyone who wants excellent material and service... also is was quick shipping...
Great all around knife. Very comfortable in the hand and good shape on the blade. Great knife for the price.
I love everything about this knife. The size, the heft, balance, the feel of the large handle allowing different grips comfortably. The blade has a very useful shape for a plethora of uses from chores of an EDC, cutting steak at a restaurant, cleaning and processing game, and would be well suited to CQC and self defense. The blade picots extremely smoothly and locks tight with no play. The liner lock is strong and smooth with release. The blade shape ideal for most tasks and allows you to choke up on it for delicate cutting . I love the feel of the knife in my hand and is now my favorite EDC which Speaks volumes as my favorite was a Spyderco Para 2 which is an excellent knife for much more money
I have wanted this knife for a few years and the timing just never worked out. When I was willing to spend the money they were out, and when I wasn't I just drooled and wished I would. I finally pulled the trigger and I'm certainly glad I did. Amazing workmanship, beautiful blade (super sharp) , nice weight and comfortable in my large (I'm 6'3" 240) hands. I can't wait to take it on my next hunt and make use of it. Thank you at Russianknives.com for making this and other great knives accessible. I may have to buy another before long I like it so much.
After trying to put the factory edge back on myself, I did more harm than good. I was initially a little nervous about sending my TRC South Pole in for sharpening. I emailed Vlad about whether TRC resharpens knives, and he pointed out this service. I have to say I am blown away by the absolute perfection. I told Vlad I wanted it restored to a factory edge, and he recommended a 21 degree edge. Because I use this knife a lot, he recommended his “back to teeth” finish. I mailed the knife to Vlad and in about a week, I have it back. I have to say that the edge Vlad put on the blade exceeds my expectations by a mile. I'd argue Vlad's sharpening put an edge on the South Pole that is superior to the original factory edge. It is shaving sharp and has a mirror finish. The blade has obviously been taken care of by a perfectionist, and I really could not be happier. Vlad told me when he received my knife, contacted me immediately about exactly what kind of edge I wanted, and got it done remarkably fast. I really could not be more impressed. If you are looking for someone to professionally restore the edge on your knife, or change the grind angle to match your specific needs, I highly recommend this service. Five stars for sure.
I was extremely happy to receive my orange textured scaled Tsarap. It is a substantial knife that fits either hand very comfortably and securely. The blade opens smoothly and locks tightly with no play. The balance feels perfect for a using knife. The handle allows for gripping in a variety of positions securely and is big enough to use while wearing gloves. The blade came razor sharp and the grind is excellent. The spine is thick enough to allow confidence in a working or EDC knife, but thin enough to allow for fine work. The design accepts a guiding finger for very precise work and there are no sharp edges to cause rough spots. The blade is an excellent cutting design and I have been a fan of D2 for many years. I chose the orange scales for visibility when setting the knife down both in the woods and at work, but I love the feel of the scalloped texture which feels perfect when positioned at different angles. I liked the knife enough that I ordered a second to carry in my left pocket. I could not be more pleased with the knife and feel it is worth several times the selling price based on materials, quality, fit, and finish.
Very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend Russian Knives.
They say it is one of the best sellers and I can see why. The videos and reviews are not exaggerations, it really is THAT good. I put it right to work and it is even sweeter to work than it is to look at!
Every blade I've received from Russian knives is spectacular, including this one. As always, helpful customer service and speedy delivery.
Thanks again guys!!!
