M390 super steel is manufactured by Bohler-Uddeholm. It uses third generation powder metal technology and developed for knife blades requiring excellent corrosion resistance and very high hardness for excellent wear resistance. Chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, and tungsten are added to promote sharpness and outstanding edge retention. M390 hardens to 60-62 HRC. Bohler calls this steel “Microclean” and it can be polished to achieve a true mirror.

The type of pattern-welded steel is the called “Damascus steel”. Originally used in middle eastern sword making, the method has been lost since about the 16th century. But in 1973 bladesmith William F. Moran unveiled his “Damascus knives” at the Knifemakers’ Guild Show. Ever since then modern pattern-welded steel blades have been called “Damascus knives”... Received my knife last week. I'm fairly new to Russian knives. I also have a Vepr cleaver made by Kizlyar. Service was very prompt. I absolutely love the birch handle, and while I haven't gotten to use it yet. I have been showing it off to my buddies who are equally impressed. Absolutely beautiful. Hopefully if all goes well, I'll be able to use it hunting if I can get off work to go. Very sharp and sheath is well made. I love it.

The Rescuer II is made as fine as they come. It's the first time I ever bought a knife and upon receiving it felt I had NOT paid enough for it. Rosarms has a quality control that takes their knives into another realm. It is an exquisite knife in every detail and with everything mirror polished. The handle is stacked leather rings (washers) and is very comfortable. The knife is also very well balanced. The sheath is another finely crafted item made from a beautiful leather and designed as well as the knife. I'm already buying more of their knives and I'm certain of what I'll receive. They offer what amounts to be a set of knives with the polished blades, guard and pommel, and with the stacked leather handles and I'll likely end up with them all. Buy one knife from them as a trial and you will buy more, probably many more. If you love knives, do not fail to check these guys out.
