The type of pattern-welded steel is the called “Damascus steel”. Originally used in middle eastern sword making, the method has been lost since about the 16th century. But in 1973 bladesmith William F. Moran unveiled his “Damascus knives” at the Knifemakers’ Guild Show. Ever since then modern pattern-welded steel blades have been called “Damascus knives”... Almost immediately after I received my TRC Apocalypse from Russianknives.com, I was so impressed with both the knife and the customer service that I ordered a TRC South Pole. I contacted Vlad to verify that he still had South Poles in stock. Vlad told me that he had several in stock and if I placed my order before noon Monday that he would personally select and mail a South Pole that day. I placed my order Monday morning and received my knife today, two days later. Upon receipt of the South Pole I performed a thorough inspection. I am very impressed with the knife materials and the excellent craftsmanship of this masterpiece. My only minor concern is the handle length. I have quite large hands (I wear X-large gloves and they fit snugly). However, with the finger choil and the fairly aggressive, but comfortable finish of the handle material they seem like they will make up for the handle length. In summary; I am thoroughly impressed with the South Pole and the superior customer service from Vlad and Russianknives.com. If you are considering this knife, here is one more very happy customer's experience to help you make your decision. Best regards, Pops
Not only is the knife so awesome Russian knives has to be one of the best companies to do business with. I will be back thanks.
Excellent product and service all first class . Mike
Beautiful. Well made knife. I would like to see ROSarms come out with a blacked out version to emphasize it's tactical slant, but is fine the way it is and makes a terrific camp knife!
Great knife, perfect condition, great price, fast shipping...thank you!
This is my 4th TRC knife and probably my favorite although I do love the Apocalypse. Box and presentation are perfect and knife was in immaculate condition. The kydex sheath fits perfectly. The blade came super sharp out of the box. The real star of the show here is the Vanadis 4e which has excellent strength at the edge even at very thin geometries and excellent toughness. Their is a reason why this steel is used in competitive blade sports. The DLC coating is the absolute best I’ve seen and do not mistake this for Cerakote, this dlc is highly durable and TRC has a video specifically dedicated to the durability of this specific coating. There are no hot spots on the knife and excellent texturing of the handle which is grippy but not overly aggressive. The butt of the knife acts as an integral hammer which is quite functional. The knife is handle heavy due to the hammer which I personally like. If you have any question as to the durability of this knife TRC knives YouTube channel has videos attesting to the durability such as prying tests on 2x4’s and hammering into tree stumps and prying their way out. So if you are on the fence on this knife I highly recommend watching some of their videos specifically dedicated to this knife’s toughness, durability, and the impressiveness of the dlc coating holding up to wear. I love this knife so much I bought 2.
I just received my TRC Apocalypse and thoroughly inspected it and it's sheath. I am a lifelong knife collector and have forged and ground my own custom knives. This knife's geometry, grinds, handle and materials are absolutely exceptional. In all truth, this knife will most likely remain a safe queen and one of the top pieces in my collection. I am so impressed with the craftsmanship that I am now eyeing the South Pole as my second knife from TRC.
I must add that Vlad and Russianknives.com have proven to be exceptional to work with. Service was very friendly and prompt. I look forward to making more purchases from them in the very near future.
Need to find a way to make more affordable for Canadians. Would buy apocalypse but with exchange and customs, too pricey!!!
Big, Beautiful, Awesome, Quality and wicked sharp. You can skin a squirrel with this work horse --- or a moose!
I have not stopped carrying this knife since I got it. It is very comfortable using multiple grips. I usually wear large gloves and the size is perfect.
great knife absolutely well made and cuts very well, perfect for camping.
For the money, you really can’t get much more monstrous of a knife! Heavy, but heavy is good. Is sign of quality. If doesn’t work, you can always throw it at them.
Wonder knife. Mr.Blade makes some of the most premium folders and fix blades available. Absolutely love them.
The excellent quality and finish I have come to expect from ROSarms. Nice bonus is the lightest weight I have personally seen on a knife of this size because of the birchbark handle. The company, Russian Knives.com is very prompt in sending orders out!
I bought my first TRC South Pole a few weeks ago. I really like it! When I happened to see TRC Apocalypse knife in stock again about two weeks ago I bought it without any hesitation. If you are looking for a knife with longer blade this is the one for you! Highly recommended!
